My MMO idea

Time of Battle: Ages Theme: The game starts as a tribal nation, and it will consist of 5 races that are all neutral. Each day there will be a puzzle that helps your nation evolve; the 1st person in the nation that completes the puzzle betters there nation. They will also receive a reward depending on their level. Eventually when each nation gets to a certain point in evolving, their civilization the game will have a patch releasing the new content for that time in history. All through this, your nation’s popularity, knowledge, power, and economy are based on the actions of its people. For example, if you kill members of another nation along with a lot of your friends, it will be considered an act of war by the other nation, but if you help people of another nation this may gain an alliance meaning that they will help you in battle, and other issues facing the nation. Just to clarify this is an MMO, but you are only a small star in a giant galaxy… metaphorically. Races/Classes: Draquilak-The Draquilak are commanding two-footed dragons that ruled the lands of Drakthar for over 400 years, but once friendly Van’Serpens threatened their very existence by spreading the Prema virus which caused their towns to go into chaos. Now, with their little knowledge it is uncertain whether they will be able to overcome this terrible disease. Being warlike creatures, it is a possibility that they will conquer the intelligence of other nations, and destroy the Van’Serpens and the Prema Virus. They live in the city of Fazilicion, and they are ruled by Great Dragon Lord Ullazan. Draquilak Classes: -Ember Knight - Tank -Enlightener - healer -Destroyer - DPS Risen Death-As all in the troubled world die their souls are saved, but their bodies are used for darker purposes. The Risen Death rule the lands of Adfor which; are said to curse any who dare to invade it. They reside in the dark city of Examinis, and they work for the Death Tyrant Deminalg. They have a relatively moderate intellect, but their combat varies by class. Only their leader, Deminalg, has a history. His limbs are from dead military leaders of other factions. They don’t have any specific enemies, but they are not too easy to make friends with. Risen Death Classes: -Skull Berserker - Tank -Riser - Healer -Necromancer - DPS The United Ugly-The United Ugly began at the end of the Orc and Goblin War which took place before the Great Reset; this is when the time when history rested and started over. Lord Gulcan, the leader of the United Ugly, was the leader of the orcs at the time of the merge, but turmoil with other “Ugly” races (trolls) attacking them from other strange places decided to join this strange alliance. The UU are known to be friendly to most, but are always ready to go to war. They live in the Great city of Ugly Hold. There intellect varies from goblin to Orc, but others of the Ugly people have moderate intellect. They all have the skill of scare which comes passively. The United Ugly Classes: -Chosen Ugly - Tank -Priest - Healer -B.O.O.M. - Goblin DPS -Hamma - Orc DPS The United Glory-The United Glory isn’t a sworn enemy of the United Ugly; in fact, they were in allegiance against the Risen Dead until, verbal battles between the two factions led to a division. All this happened after the Time of Emergence, but the war was very, very primitive. At this time there is no fighting between the two, but it is only a matter of time before one crosses the line. They consist of the Humans of Amazanzi and the Elves of the Northern Sea. The elves sought refuge after they were a discarded creation by the Time Maker. They built up their reputation with the Humans of Amazanzi, and soon gained second hand power in their great city, Goldor. They are ruled by Lord Ozite and the elf queen, Delahna. The Humans and Elves have extreme intelligence and moderate fighting skills. The United Glory Classes: -Royal Knight - Tank -Priest – Healer -Swift Warrior – Human DPS -Magic Archer – Elf DPS The Angry Dwarves-The Angry Dwarves have been swindled by Goblins for years. They have much anger against the United Ugly, but war is not a good option for these people because of the Axe Riders. The Axe Raiders have been kidnapping dwarven children for years, so the dwarves were forced to change their lifestyle to save their people. At the age of 3 the dwarves are trained for warfare. This is to protect themselves from the dreaded Axe Raiders; which are much, much taller than dwarves. They are ruled by Steel Hammer who was born only 10 years before the Great Reset. They live in the City of Engineburg. The Angry Dwarves’ Classes: -Sword Lord – Tank -Life Forger – Healer -Basher – DPS -------------------------------------------- PVP: The PVP will consist of various zones that can be captured by opposing factions. This is another way war starts. In the beginning of the game each nation will own 2 zones; the 1 of the zones contains the main city and the other can be taken by other factions or shared. If you would like to invade the zone containing the main city; you will have to overcome players, zone beasts, guard npc, and Kings. If you are able to finally take control of the zone the captured nation is in slavery stage for 5 days. After 5 days the city will lose 100,000 gold putting it in debt depending on the amount of riches. After this it is up to the players to restore the economy and order in their nation. The nation that conquered the city also receives all the profits of those 5 days. The conquered people now are left with little defense and only one zone. There will also be a whole world left of zones, so if you don’t want to try and take your lost zone back there is always a neutral zone waiting for capture. After one nation captures another they can’t be captured for another 3 days. Dominance is when one nation controls all zones except for main city ones. In dominance the nation must keep a high supply of money to provide for its people. If the nation falls into debt, it is a good idea to sell zones to opposing factions, or maybe even give. Pvp also gives intelligence… for example: You may find out important information from killing a person doing an important quest. You will not lose any items if you are killed, but you will spawn at the nearest spirit walker. Spirit Walkers are in random places, and they will have at least 5 per zone. If you kill a person of the opposing faction you are at war with; you will get honor. Honor gives you ranks, and eventually with a high enough rank you will get extreme power over the nation’s army. If you kill a member of another nation you are not at war with you will receive honor or negative honor depending on your friendship with that nation. Nations will all have a social status... for example: If one nation picks on others and does random attacks on their land they are considered the world bully, but if you are getting attacked by the bully and don’t make war you are the world baby. As the game evolves so will the warfare. Zones will turn into planets, and over time it will feel like a totally new game that keeps its original fun. PVE: The pve in the game will be mostly raids, and your skill will be tested as you kill huge monsters for the sake of intelligence and your own gear. For Example: If the puzzle of the day, explained below, evolves killing a raid boss for an antidote to a rare plague you must gather your friends, and fight the monster to save the lives of your citizens, and put some money in your pocket as well. Each nation has a man raid boss that threatens their very existence… For example: The dwarves fight the mighty Axe Raiders, so the leader of the Axe Raiders may be the key to the end of their suffering. As nations evolve so will raid bosses they will obtain new technology, and harness new magic for the destruction of their enemies. PVP’s enslaving of other nations also takes a big part in PVE. If your nation is at war with say the Risen Death, you will have to overcome pvp and pve obstacles as you race to the dark thrown to kill the Death Tyrant Deminalg. When you reach the leader you must be ready to have a strategy and pvp skill. This is why capturing other nations is such a challenge; you must have skill in both to really say that you’re the best, and the rewards are great. If you kill a certain monster you will also get a title in your name… for example: If you complete a raid for killing a snake lord your name may be, Snake Slayer and… your name, as well as other gear or mounts. The hardest raid in the game will be to kill the dark creator. He is the creator that discarded the elves. In this fight the Creator of Light comes to finish the fight after you take out 90% of his health. If you succeed you may choose the title elf avenger. Puzzles: The Daily puzzle is the main source of your nation’s evolution. They can range from killing a raid boss, to killing a measly level one in a remote area, or solving a riddle. Each puzzle will give a reward to the 1st person in the nation to do it. The reward varies by level. Mostly the puzzles give the nation intelligence points, like other types of points, goes toward your total evolution. In rare cases the puzzle will give you direct evolution points. If no one in the nation can solve it no reward is given, and half of the points are given to the nation. If no one figures out the puzzle for a while; the nation’s social status is called “idiots”. Evolution Timeline: Caveman Time::Tribal::Early-Bronze::Late-Bronze::Early-Iron::Late-Iron::Early Steel::Late-Steel::Early Gold-Late Gold-Early Time of Guns::Middle-Gun::Late-Gun::Early New-Warfare::Advanced New-Warfare::Space Times::The Great Reset How Evolution Works: As you can see from the time line the middle-ages takes place for the longest time, and at the end is the great reset. Some people might take the Great Reset as all the accounts get reset. That is wrong the levels of people will stay the same. The ways to evolve include making war, ending war, making alliances, ending alliances, puzzles, raids, doing your professions, trading, talking, and basically anything that contributes to history. In the game there will be a list of points that determine the point in the time line. EXAMPLE: Caveman Time::Tribal::Early-Bronze::Late-Bronze::Early-Iron::Late-Iron::Early Steel::Late-Steel::Early Gold-Late Gold-Early Time of Guns::Middle-Gun::Late-Gun::Early New-Warfare::Advanced New-Warfare::Space Times::The Great Reset Total Evolution- 45,000 points War-22,500 points -Tactics: 8500 points -Kills: 10,000 points -Conquering: 4000 points Intelligence- 12,500 points -Animals: 500 points -Origin of Life: 2000 points -Puzzle solving: 5000 points -Knowledge of Magic: 5000 points Land- 10,000 points -Zones: 5000 points -Structures: 1000 Points -towns: 1000 points -defense: 4000 points Leveling: The level cap in the game will be 50. Levels can be obtained by questing and/or pvp. Each time u put toward points for your nation you receive xp. Along with honor xp is obtained by killing the enemy faction. Quests will be unique, and you will have many different choices during them. Each monster has a bounty level that stands by its total level. This determines the about of xp gained by the kill… for example: If you kill a monster/faction npc with 2 you will not get as much xp, but if you kill a monster/faction npc with a bounty level of 10 you will get a lot of xp. If you take part in a pvp raid this also gives you xp. In all I don’t want leveling to take long I want the game to cut to the chase of having fun in endgame experiences like raids, pvp, and much more. Gear: The gear in the game will usually be the gear obtained from quests, but weapons are much different. New weapons are obtained from the occasional group quest, raids, and pvp… for example: If you kill Ullazan, the Draquilak leader, there is a chance you can either get the drop of his own weapon or The Twin Swords of the Dragon Slayer. I am not working on this... I am just proposing an idea.
It would be supremely frustrating to try to be online every day when the new puzzle was going to be released and try to solve it as fast as possible, and it would pretty much never be me who solved it first; I have to say I would hate that, despite generally enjoying puzzle solving. I hate being in a hurry and I also hate contests where lots of people try as hard as they can but only one or two people win, it just makes the majority of people who participated angry and depressed.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

An alternative to the requirement of being online first to finish the puzzle, is to have a turn-based system where the "time to resolution" per team is recorded (e.g. time difference of when the puzzle was started, to when it was completed), and compared once per day. If a team doesn't come together to resolve the puzzle, they forfeit their possible win. If any team member posts the solution on a forum/chat/the webbernet/etc, then this enables other teams to shortcut their way to winning (thus curbing cheating/metagaming).

At the end of the day, the results are compared, and the team with the shortest time-to-resolution wins the "round".
This sounds fairly bog standard to me.

Like Warhammer but instead of battle sequences you have frustratingly stupid crossword puzzles.

And it seems like one of those games that takes the piss out of itself like Dungeon Runners, but it just doesn't sound as funny.

I don't know, maybe you should set out clearer design goals when you revise your idea, because it seems pretty mashed up to me.

Also this zoning garbage seems like a misguided attempt at bringing something new to the plate.

Obviously there's going to be highly contested territory, but if a lot of people go into one race and not another, that server will be imbalanced for a really long time.
It sounds good in theory but I don't think anybody will appreciate being handicapped right at the start because everyone wants to be a pretty elf.

A good replacement word for 'two-footed' is bipedal. Last time I checked, dragons have always had two feet.

I don't think any good leader would offer morale in the form of the word 'ugly' either. Orcs are people too.
