I'm looking for a 3D model format that supports animations to put in my game engine. The first formats i thought of where quake and halflife models. Source code examples for viewing their models are given in their SDKs. But what are you allowed to do with their code and model formats? The code has a Copyright on it. So what can i do with the code? Can I cut and paste it into my application or do i have to rewrite it myself? Does ID or Sierra have a copyright on their model file formats as well? So what i'm really trying to ask is what can i legally do with their code and file formats given in their SDK's? Thanks - Brett.S Edited by - bretto on June 16, 2001 8:48:06 AM
Well, I use the Quake 2 (and maybe I''ll start using the Quake 3) model format for my games. A .md2 (quake 2) file is *really* easy to read in, and animate in any game. Do a ''net search for ".md2 file specs." Hopefully you can find a site that gives you all of the information about the file, and all of the info that you need to read in.
