Portal engine tutorials?
Does anyone know of any? I''ve come across some bsp tutorials but I''d prefer portals in all honesty.
Thanks in advance,

go to www.flipcode.com; they have one there, but it is a little old i think and the guy uses software rendering...still worth a look

Not a tutorial, but if you like to read source code take a look at Crystal Space. It''s an Open Source 3D engine using portals (as well as BSP trees and a bunch of other stuff).
Thanks for the input guys. aDasTRa, that article helped me understand what a portal was but not really how they work because that code meant absolutely nothing to me ![](smile.gif)
Dactylos, I check out the screenshots for that engine, particularly the conversion of a Q3A map to portals, quite nice but I think they''re dynamic lighting for the iso engine is soooooo cool (jealousy).
Any more help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, tutorials seem to prefer BSPs to portals but I prefer the dynamic aspect of portals.
