Hello, I've having this problem with a object in this one mesh I'm working with. In 3DS the texture shows up perfectly, but when I export to other programs the top face of the box shaped object is missing and the texture is showing up on the backface:( its like the top of the box is invisable:( I checked the objects props in 3DS but can't seem to find anything wrong with the settings(they seem the same as any other object) Also I put a new mat on the object and new UV cords, but still same problem. Any idea what might cause this? I can submit a picture if nessary. Thanks for your time mates, MajSlayer
If i understand your problem correctly it is just a flipped normal. A normal is a vector that points outward from a face/poly and tells what direction the poly is facing. If the normal is flipped then the face will show on the backface and be invisible from its usual perspective. This is quite a common occurence when exporting and importing models between apps.
To fix the imported mesh you'll have to select the inverted face/poly and flip it, most programs give this capability. I can not tell you exactly how to do this since you don't mention what program you're importing the mesh into.

Do not use the .3ds format. It is very, very old and deprecated.

Quite true, but it also has support in almost every application. But of course, if you can go better, you should do so.
