Is there any advantages in performance, etc. in using mp3''s over .wav files besides saving memory?
nope ..
since even mp3''s have to be converted to wav data in order for playback ..

it wont save memory, and it will take your game longer to load them, but using MP3s will reduce the size of your program somewhat, depending on how much sound you are using.

Another good library is fmod. Plus it's free
