.x file dying?
I heard a rumour that Microsoft is silently killing the .x file from an email. Is this true? It said that they are trying to move the game dev communities in .fbx?
I doubt that. Fbx is an autodesk format, not a Microsoft format.
Having said that, X files aren't particularly useful for larger games, where the developers will usually use a custom model format.

Maybe slowly killing as this has been said for the last three or so years.
How can they kill it? Software supporting .x won't magically disappear, just like .3ds is alive and kicking. Just write your own parser and be done with it.
