A lot of the chatter coming out of last month’s GDC conference was focused on Indie developed games being this year’s “New” trend, mainly on the back of Portal’s success. Does anyone believe that the larger publishers are going to start offering more deals to independent designers? Or is this just another load of executives trying to buy some indie cred with the press?
Its just buisness as usual. In the short term some publishers might take more notice of indie developers, maybe even makeing deals. But some of those games will fail, biting publishers in thier arse. And thus once bitten twice shy.

Its an industry built on fads, and fads come and go. Wasn't that long ago RPGs were practicaly considered dead, just like adventure games and to a lesser extent RTS games are now. But its part of the cycle. Starcraft 2 will likely see lots of renewed intrest in RTS games, and maybe Tim Schafer's upcomeing Brutal Legend can reinvigorate adventure games. Only time will tell for sure, gamers can be a fickle bunch.

Just make the games you want to play and do your best to get them infront of a game playing audiance. Might not make you rich, might not win you fans. But you still have made games to be proud of. ;)
