First I have a question. If the title of a story does not directly relate to it, could that become a problem? Reason I ask is that, a game that me and my friend are starting on will be titled Kush (so far) but is set in the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, a few centuries before the actual title of Kush was used. Most of the game will be set in the Nubian area (later Cush/Kush). Do enough people know about the Kush Kingdom for it to matter? This could be followed up by a sequel to explain the whole thing but I would like your opinions. As for the storyline, here's a basis. I will put more later. Kush - As Amun-Re rules the Underworlds with a fair and just hand, there are those that plot against him to wield his power. Aten, one of the most beautiful gods, believes it is his right to become the King of gods. However, it cannot be done without direct influence from the Pharaoh. Aten tricks the Pharaoh into giving him the power to have an earthly body, and he slowly solidifies his hold on both worlds. C&C ~aero

Yes.

A title unfortunately is how a lot of people judge a game. Naming it Kush doesn't help it much. I would name it something more relevant to the game/game play so that a player can almost tell by the title what type of game it is / the setting the game is in.

As silly as it sounds there are people who look at a titles' name and say "that sounds gay Id never play that" without giving it a second though. (Not saying your title is bad it just doesn't convey to me what the game is about.)
okay that makes sense.
But how many people know enough about Egyptian pantheon and lore to even know about a title that would fit?
This is a problem because we aren't using gods that everyone associates with Egypt such as Osiris, Anubis, etc..
Rather, we are taking the route of Silicon Knights (Too human) and using unknown gods with vague stories:
Amun-Re (Ra) & Aten

However, Too Human has one advantage: Gameplay..which is where the title comes from. So should we wait before naming this project?
Ha..I'm just rambling, I'll figure it out xD

I would say that if you want the title to relate to the story, try taking it from a perspective of showing the person how the character gained the title of Kush. Show the person what he had to do in order to attain it, who he had to kill, what he had to do. It could possibly work, of course your story could be changed drastically.

Just my two-cents.

Chrono1081 has a good point in that people judge a game by its title. So it's a good idea to have it relevant to the story. But, it doesn't have to be related.

Find a title that represents the theme and tone of the game. As long as you do that, the title doesn't have to be an exact match. Make it similar but it can still be off topic.

In the way of story, I like the idea. So far. How does the player tie into this?

Yeah..I'll jus twait until most of teh story and gameplay comes together to look for a title.

Not totally sure..I'm notorious for completely revamping a storyline in the middle of production..

I had the player as a young Priest apprentice of Amun-Re...

However...I happened to come across this book on Akhenaten and his reign..He was sort of a revolutionary in the way he ruled. He wanted to correct a lot of the problems he saw wrong in Egyptian culture...I don't have time to post up all of the details but I think I'll switch the story around so Amun-Re is more of the villain.

The player will still be a priest, however he will be serving Aten and working to thwart a plan by Amun-Re's priests to destroy the capital city Akhetaten, the source of Aten's power. However, the priests have removed the bind on the gods in the underworld, and they are now creating havoc throughout Egypt.

The core gameplay will be finding the gods, and defeating them to gain their power. Anubis will give you his army to fight with...With Bast's, you can turn into a cat for stealth..We're still working it out but that's what we're looking forward to. Thanks for the comments.
