i have come to one conclusion with microsoft. they assimilate everything in there path

basically they produce inferior products with superior marketing that crushes the competition. if u dont think thats true, well it is. just read the pumpkin documents
Usser, are you trying to bring up every topic that will create a flame war in one post ? Anyway, not to start a war, but here''s my response:
1. Yeah, Netscape sucks (I used to be a Netscape supporter, but I now support Opera and IE).
2. Word Perfect still seems pretty much equal to Word to me, I''ve used the newest copies of both. Word just has more marketing might behind it.
3. I don''t like .NET or Java, so I don''t care with this one goes .
4. Microsoft is the one holding back OpenGL 1.2 from standard support under Windows. Most video cards support most or all of the standard ARB extensions, which include things like bump mapping, et cetera. Extensions are not "special" they are well regulated (the standard ones that is, the nVidia and ATI and other companies extensions can do whatever they want, until they become standard) by the ARB.

hey people,

it''s not really a question about which is better...MS or it''s alternative. fact is MS is no matter what coming up with competing technologies and there''s really nothing much we can do except take sides scream and rant and rave and start flame wars.

fact again is that money speaks like nothing else. So if our markets decide to adopt C# u got to go that way like it or not.

So let me get back to the original question....

C# uses C++ syntax, apparently has inbuilt libraries that make it compatible with .NET. added to it it''s a OOPs language in itself. I am not looking for comparisons with JAVA. I have no loyalties to technology. what does the work best suits me just fine. and that is exactly the atitude of the market in general.

So could some techie please tell me if purely from a technology point of view c# can indeed replace C++ etc effectively.

Remember MS is gonna throw a lot of muscle behind the XBOX and people are gonna pick it up. XBOX is gonna be a platform for which we guys may have to develop at some point. Does XBOX also use .NET technologies? In that case won''t Ms in it''s vharacteristic syle...give C# an edge over other programming languages ????

Need technical opinion guys...not ethical/business/moral etc. This is a totally tech oriented question.

thanx guys and sorry if i did sound rude but a tech discusiion should remain just that...

cheers

mayavi:
C# is not meant to replace C++. The main thrust of C# is to replace VB. It''s a totally new language, designed from the ground up to be OOP and .NET. VB.NET on the other hand has been appended and contorted to add OOP and make it .NET compatable...not nearly as elegant.

Anyway, C# is designed to be a RAD tool for business (upwards of 90% of the software market). You can use it to make games, but the .NET framework won''t be on the XBox...unless they change last minute.
