Direct Sound problem with AWE 32
This isn''t a programming related problem but I figure some clever person can help me with my sound card problem (and I think it''s got something to do with DirectX). I recently got the Soundblaster AWE 32 (non plug and play, ISA slot). It was second hand and didn''t come with a drivers disk so I downloaded the latest drivers from the creative website. After letting it detect the new hardware I installed the drivers and rebooted. When Windows loaded up I heard the startup music and thought everything was fine. I attempted to play a wave file, but windows media player just locked up and when I attempt to ctr alt del and end task it, it freezes windows. Then I try to play a game and it just turns the monitor black (puts it in sleep mode). If I disable the soundcard everything works fine. I tried reinstalling DirectX 8.0. When I attempted to run DXDiag the wait icon appeared and disappeared without DXDiag loading, but if I press ctr alt del it shows it as running. I''m sure someone with more experience with PC''s then me can find a solution
