Lost Heroes
Hey, I'm currently working on a game, and I'd like some feed back on the conceptual idea. It’s a Science Fiction RPG, and has a Final Fantasy style to it.
- 2305 - The crumbling empire that is so loathed by it's civilians is slowly falling into chaos. Facing the growing rebellion, the empire has no other option then to overly enforce it's citizens. Curfews, strict rules, and monitored lifestyles are what the empire offers. This tactical move empowers the empire, and soon it begins to rebuild itself. The rebellion begins losing, and is left with one remaining option.
Genetic Warfare.
The rebellion scientists have created a genetic injection, one that grants it's host amazing abilities. This sparks a new war, one of which is no longer a rebellion. This new injection spreads through out the galaxy. Soon the injectors are caught, and the empire ceased it's distributions. But those with abilities soon had children, and generations after generations were filled with ability wielding children. Now, those with abilities are marked as "Differents" and are hunted down.
The empire once again faces threats from this new breed of meta humans, and a second rebellion seems inevitable.
This is just a back story. I haven’t gotten to the characters yet. I want opinions on what I should add, what should I do, and about the concept. Much appreciated.

The second half of what you posted wasnt bad but the first half ditch. (The whole part about the empire and rebellion.) Anymore this is an instant turn off in a story because it has been done soo many times. Noone cares about empires/rebellions/heros with a troubled past etc. What you need to do is grow your story by setting contstraits for yourself. If you don't allow yourself to put the cliche elements in your game it will help you to "think outside the box".
I like the idea of the injections creating a new "race" of people. What kind of amazing abilities did you have in mind for these people? Do they all have the same ability? Did they start out with the same ability yet through the generations see a change in their abilities? Are some more dangerous then others?
What went wrong to make people hate the "differents" all of the sudden? (Im sensing some possibilities here) Are there any secret groups that are out to kill the differents? What kind of role do these differents play in society?

Richard Morgan explored the topic of the hated 'ubermensch' very well in his book Black Man .
His argument was that by training and genetics, humanity brought back a super-alpha-male, a barbarian throwback to the days before agrarianism made him obsolete, and the regular males hunted him down. He's described as the 'lone wolf in the storm, someone who made men's knuckles itch, and womens legs swoon'. Humanity, of course, promptly decides that bringing them back was a mistake, and tries to kill or quarantine them.

I know, the first half would be more or less, a cinematic voice. I thought out of starting with an imperial soldier in the middle of a quarantine process. This will be a 'tutorial' and will get you familiar with the world and controls. As far as abilities, I can brainstorm a thousand of them. Despite my uncertainy, I know I want a character ( a meta human ) that will join your party and has the ability to control electric currents. This will offer a move or two with blocking gun blasts, control gun blasts, etc. I hated involving empire and rebellion because I agree. It's too cliche.

I like the electric current controlling idea. I really think you have enough to work with to avoid the empire rebellion cliche. Now if these guys control current, what would make people hate them? Couldnt they help people by providing power and things like that? Did one of them abuse their powers a bit too much? (Just throwing some seeds out there>)
- 'Differents' - People with amazing abilities. I think the most common one would be telekinesis. People discard them mostly out of jealousy. Why do these people get abilities, and not me? I am a great and well known author, why can't I have amazing abilities. Many abuse their powers and the empire is forced to unleash it's wrath upon them. Forged after the first rebellion, the Eboknights hunt down these people. The empire does not want them, does not trust them, and does not want to help them. But, secretly, a hypocrisy is brewing. The empire is trying to harvest these powers to create a super soldier. Their studies and experiments are highly illegal. They are highly guarded and hidden from the press. If news leaked of this governmental hypocrisy, then war and chaos would surely break out.
