Music licensing for a free, open-source, GPL game
Hello, I'm the creator of a free, open-source car racing game (vdrift.net) and we're wanting to start including some music with our game. We have a couple of artists who are willing to give us music tracks to use in the game in exchange for credit (but no money changing hands). The tracks would be in a format (OGG) that someone could easily copy out of the data folder and play on their own, but the musicians are fine with this (free publicity). Anyway, my question is this: what sort of licensing terms do I need to work out with the musicians? Certainly I need to make sure that the agreement includes the fact that the project is distributed for free and that the music tracks are stored un-encrypted. Are there any other legal concerns I need to be aware of? How will the GPL (which is what my game is licensed under at the moment) affect the agreement? I'm a complete legal newb, so any advice is appreciate. Thanks!

What does your lawyer say?

Talk to a lawyer. In fact, talk to the FSF's lawyers (ie the EFF). They'll probably be glad to help you, and it won't cost you a dime.
That said, you'll probably end up using some type of Creative Commons license.
