have been composing with Finale and Fruit loops for a few years and I finally have been getting some interest from some video game companies and authors to write music for them. I have had SEVERAL comments about my instrument samples sounding outdated, such as my sample library is VERY outdated. What should I purchase to update my aging library???? I would really like something that is compatible with fruit loops since I have the most experience using it and it's VST instruments. so what are some professional sounding samples/vst programs out there that you have used? I'm hoping for quality strings and orchestra type stuff!
I would give the Gold XP edition a shot from East west quantum leaps. They also have a nice composer bundle offer at the moment: http://www.soundsonline.com/EastWest-Composer-Bundle-pr-EW-CBUND1.html

Honestly I have no idea if they work with Fruity loops, since I havent worked much with that program, but I use the Gold edition without any problems in Finale 2007

Also Kontakt 2 comes with a nice amount of gigs with a sort of stripped version (still 14gb though) from the Vienna Sound Library.

You can listen to demo's on the soundsonline page for the products they sell. Gives a nice idea how it sounds.

Good luck!

thank you, I'm looking into Kontakt2 right now!
East West Gold PRO does infact work with Fruity Studios. I am a heavy user of FS myself, and I also use EWGPRO. Brilliant library, worth every cent.
I also vouch for EWQL gold; I myself use silver and have heard people that use gold; definitely some quality samples.

Also, fruit loops and fruity studios? ;)

ever since Fruity 3.0, they started calling it Fruity Studios.

I assume they didn't want to be associated with a cereal anymore. People still just call it Fruity Loops though.

Their legacy is final, and absolute D:

Heh, no, actually it's called FL Studio and has been for quite some time.

But as the cliche goes, it doesn't matter what you use, it's what you can do with it. blah blah :)

what's the difference between EWQL silver and gold? Is it the number of samples?
Silver is quite poor library in comparison to Gold. Instruments are not sampled chromaticaly (each note has it's own samples), but stretched (same samples for a range of notes). Silver also doesn't support release trails, which is natural hall reverb, you can hear with Gold or Platinum when you release the key. Also if I'm not wrong, Silver also has less dynamic layers.

There's a detailed comparison chart here:

Yeah, if you're going to be doing a lot of orchestral-only pieces, then you should probably spend the extra money and pick up gold; it just sounds much better. As for myself, I tend to do more electronica styled tracks, so it's easier to hide the "inferiority" of silver's samples.
