Romance in Stories. Reommended or Not?
I always liked them. It lets me get to know the characters and they leave an impression on me if it's well done. Besides, every good story is really about a girl in the end.

Haha... That kinda makes sense... After all, if some romance isn't shown, I saw some game endings on youtube get angry replies cause there was no extra romance scenes in the end.

Those complaints weren't based on missing "extras" - they were based on missing necessities. Not all games would benefit by having "extra" romantic stuff tacked on. How many movies have you seen where there was a romantic interest subplot that felt out of place? Somebody thought the movie needed that, but it really didn't.

If you use it, make it open to the player as to which love interest to pursue, I really liked KOTOR in this sense, I didn't go for the obvious Bastila romance because she annoyed the hell out of me, always being bossy and uptight, I went for Juhani instead, that take on the topic was almost perfect, save for the fact that they toned down same sex love interest for obvious reasons (I played a female avatar).
On the other hand I hate Final Fantasy X take, they force the romance aspect on Yuna, who I found to be a whinny crybaby I wanted to kill rather than protect.
I would always try to hit on Lulu instead, but no dice.
Edit: grammar.

*Points out that women like herself also play games, and that for women who prefer men every story is really about a _guy_ in the end and many of us are big fans of same-sex _male_ romance*
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
