I just went there
It is not what I meant.
I meant a site where you build your computer online and it tracks the price and they put it together for you..
Anyone use a place like that?
Whats your favorite 'build your computer' store in the USA ?
Well, if I were to build a computer, nothing beats a custom built (parts courtesy of newegg of course!).
But if I had cash to throw on a new PC that I want other people to build, I would go with Falcon Northwest. They seem to be good at what they do, just a bit pricey. Can't say much of Alienware, they are Dell now. =P Nothing wrong with Dell, mind you, but I hear they use some rather "cheap" parts for some of their components where as Falcon Northwest uses quality products.

o kthnaks. ill try new egg
Also, whats the trend with 19" monitors.. should I just be getting wide screen monitors or the standard..
In 4 years will all LCDSs be wide screen ?
If you play any games at all I would get at least a 22" widescreen. It's also nice for spreadsheets and coding.
Quote: Original post by Mathachew8th. I have mixed feelings about widescreen, myself. It's understandable for laptops, but I don't like it that much for a desktop. I find that what I want is more vertical screen space, rather than horizontal.Quote: Original post by ZeraanQuote: Original post by think_differentQuote: Original post by DeleterQuote: Original post by DeafManNoEarsQuote: Original post by necreiaQuote: Original post by Mithrandir
Newegg
I very strongly second this.
An equally strong third!!!!!!
Excellent prices, combo deals, and super fast shipping.
Extremely strong fourth. I've built 2 computers using this site, very excellent service and prices.
FWIW, here is a 5th recommendation for newegg.
6th recommendation! It's an awesome site, I built my past two computers solely from this site. Awesome shipping, awesome pricing, and awesome quality!
7th recommendation. The number seven is special. Mathachew is special. I'm so happy [smile]
Edit: Oh, Newegg is special too.

Tell me what you want, I will tell you the Newegg price. Then I will order the parts (from Newegg) and put it together with the parts (from newegg). I will then ship it to you.
I think your best option will be to duck into our new hardware forum, and post your question about what specs you want, order them off Newegg, and put it together yourself.
I'm sure you can find someone that does a lot of computers that could look at what you order, and tell you in step by step instructions just how you put everything together.
You have to learn to play with hardware sometime after all.

I'm gonna fling this over to Hardware.
I hear "ibuypower" a lot, I don't know if they're reputable or if they use quality parts.
However, it SERIOUSLY isn't hard to build your own machine from parts. Perhaps the hardest part is applying thermal glue to the CPU. You can do that if you've applied peanut butter to toast.

I bought among other things a 19 inch Samsung LCD widescreen Monitor from them, I like it a lot better than my previous assortment of 17 inch CRTs, but it does have its drawbacks, for example, using my Wacom CTE-430 feels odd, apparently everyone adjust to it, but not me.
I also got my second DVD burner from them, at least 2 IDE drives and 3 SATA ones, my current 700 watt PSU, my current CPU (Athlon XP 3400 32 bit), and some other stuff I forget,
I've also placed some orders from them for my brother, a PSU, Mobo, a NV Geforce 7xxx, a CPU, and I think some memory.
So far, everything has arrived in perfect condition, and now that I made that statement it is likely that Murphy will take over and the next order will get screwed up somehow [smile].
