Hey, I''m new to GameDev.com and I''ve been looking around lately and havn''t found anything to help me that much. One problem is: I''m on a Macintosh and I need help on where I can find a Macintosh Compilier. The next thing I want to talk about is: can I just write up any code (Linux, Windows, Mac) on my NOTEPAD then bring it into the compilier to make a application/game? Is it that easy? I''ve learned to code in basic but I''m looking into developing a game like Q3 in C++. If you have anything that can help me, then please reply! Finally: where is a good place to start after I get a compilier? Any links? Thanks ahead of time! -Trip
Well ... you can write the code anywhere and bring it into your IDE. It would be surprising if it "just worked" though. How much Macintosh experience have you had? Because, much like Windows, you can''t expect to turn out a game like Q3 without writing "Hello World" a few times.

the other problem with the Mac right now is the transition from 9 to X, there are a lot of problems, most notably there is no convenient way to get input from gamepads and the like under X - of course if you''re happy to develop for 9 only (and after all, most people have no compelling reason to upgrade), there''s plenty of support there in the game sprockets.

If you are looking for a good place to start, try http://www.idevgames.com for tutorials and a large collection of source code.

You may also want to sign up for the Mac Games Dev mailing list, to be found somewhere at lists.apple.com. There are some other lists there you may find useful too.
