They are afraid of my client
Hi all,
we have just finished a free online space strategy game (check Web Space Alliance ) and people seems to be afraid to run the client fearing that is a Trojan virus!!!What can we do to get them rid of that fear?
Also, if you start the game, please send immediately any connection problems (especially if you are from the USA) with TCP\IP details (proxy/not proxy,firewall/not firewall, modem/lan/e.t.c. ) as we try to discover if there are any problems due to latency periods.
Thanks,
Jabba

The Truth Is Not To Be Spoken In A Loud Voice
Publicise better.
People won''t be afraid if they know about you, about the game and actually want to play it.
How are you trying to gather players at the moment?

Eh, the usual ways:
-some small posts on comp.sys.ibm.pc.strategic - rare enough to avoid being accused of spam
-an add on mpogd.com - not very visible
-mirc channels and icq
-shameless self promotion on older games'' board (like Planetarion)
-some messages on this very board :-)
That''s all, really, we don''t have any funds at all
(a mate looking from nearby is just suggesting random calls from the phone book :-) and me running around the city screaming out the name of the game)
Regards,
Jabbba

I''d guess your problem comes from the fact that you''re trying to persuade people to play your game, when you really need them coming to you.
I''d suggest looking at ways of getting the game reviewed and noticed on bigger gaming sites. Concentrate on highlighting what''s good about the product. If it''s a good title, users will come to your web site and *want* to download the client.
Try and think what larger games companies would do, and find ways of doing similar but without spending any cash.
You''ve got to act professional or people won''t trust you or your programs.
We have similar problems regularly in the web development industry.
