Indrema is dead?
It doesn''t appear to have been announced elsewhere, although it might have been known to some and was possible on the cards for some time, but the Indrema is no more as they have announced on their development IRC.

Slashdot.org had it earlier today, and I''ve personally beleived it wasn''t going to make it (unfortunetly) for a little while now. It would have been nice to see what it could do though...

Thats a shame. I would really have liked to have seen the Indrema. I couldn''t wait for it to come out. I would''ve been one of the few people to buy one though.
Did anyone read the interview in NextGeneration? It looked so promising then.

If Indrema would have been at the point they are at now a year ago they would have got funding but everyone is feeling the hurt in the tech sector and no one is going to throw 10M at a new console company. If someone figures out how to hack a xbox to linux, I will get one. Make ms eat $250 on the box so I can put linux on it. Hehehe.

I agree, it is a real shame. I never had much hope for it either though, I have never believed much in anything like this getting any sort of investment backing (there are so many ''has been'' or ''never were'' consoles that had better backing than this).
I used to talk about it with my Linux friends. Of course they were very behind the idea, but I''m still not sure the public cared whether the console was Linux or not. I did very much grow to like the idea and the possibilities behind it. It could have filled a very large gap for many developers, professional and homebrewers, even if it only gained a ''cult'' following.
I feel this won''t be the last we will see of this sort of project. The makers are now working for another company on what sounds to be something that may turn out to have games or multimedia support (even if it is its secondary purpose). Also, the Indrema IRC does talk about how much easier it is for anyone to throw together a linux console prototype. It''s a good point.
Does anyone know of any similar sort of thing?

Yeah,Indrema was dead from the start. But I really believe that if they had WinCE or Win2K on it,it owuld have survived (assuming they managed to get a deal with Microsoft). Why? Because of the developers. The one thing that makes the X-Box soooo attractive is that it''s sooo easy to develop for.And developers already have a grasp of DX and Windows. Why would they want to switch to a new OS and new API? Just a though.

Oh and I kind of disagree with GKW on his point.Even if the Indrema was to be announced a year ago,it would still have to compete with the PS2 and the XBox.How would a startup console company compete with big names like that? If you ask anyone on the street if he''s going to buy an Indrema, they''re just going to say "Huh? What''s that?".
Whatever you think of Microsoft is irrelevant. The point is (like somebody here said) that consumers don''t really care what OS the console is running as long as they can play games on it.The smart move that MS did was that they went around to all developers and asked them what they wanted in a console. They then took those notes and developed the XBox around that. The key to all this are the developers.Indrema wasn''t attractive to them![](wink.gif)

Besides the Indrema, I could have sworn I heard of another similar console on a forum at gameshark.com. That was over a year and a half ago.
I can''t remember the name, but it was mentioned in the same post as the one that mentioned Indrema.
Oh well. If I can''t remember the name and haven''t heard of it since, it''s got to be dead too.

I think the competition would have been irrelevent a year ago. Investors had a ton of cash a year ago and if they only needed $10M, I bet they could have got it. If you read the chat they say that some one could still come in and buy what they have completed so far. I think consumers would have liked the idea of being able to get free games. Even if most are worthless, you are going to find one or two that will make it worth while. And then if Loki would have ported Tribes 2 to the box, Indrema would have made some cash.
