ATI Opengl support
Hey,
I was over at my friends house and he has a radeon 64mb with win2k and homeworld won''t run in GL. I patched the game to its latest and tried two sets of drivers. Any ideas. Thanks.

The radeon has the worst drivers ever made for Win2K (up to a 50% speed decrease when it will run), their drivers are probably at fault. Try finding newer drivers for the radeon, they might have been updated (I honestly don''t know if they have though).

OPENGL ISSUES:
- This driver release contains a full OpenGL ICD, which complies with the
OpenGL 1.1 specification. Hardware acceleration is provided for most
features contained in the specification at 16 bpp and 32 bpp. If you are
configured for 8 bpp or 24 bpp OpenGL will not be accelerated. GAME ISSUES:
- Homeworld (OpenGL) : Fails to set display mode. We recommend using
Direct3D until this issue is resolved.
-Half-Life (D3D) : The menu is not visable once the game has started.
We recommend using OpenGL until this issue is resolved.
also
-Homeworld (D3D) : Attempts to set mode, but will restart the system.
-FIFA 2000: Return to Windows 2000 desktop when attempting to launch game.
-Half-Life Opposing Force: Taskswitching to and from desktop will not redraw
game menu.

Actually lately ATI has been getting better with updating drivers, latest W2K drivers are from this month. Get in touch with Radeon scene at www.rage3d.com
with the latest WHQL RadeOn drivers, my OpenGL apps are twice as fast as with previous drivers, and games are faster too.
(maybe not twice as fast for games, but at least 20-50% faster)
Don''t forget that the RadeOn is new, while the GeForce cards are not, and such have good drivers.
Is it me, or they are rarely WHQL drivers for nVidia boards (I use one at work).

I was pissed when Homeworld Cataclysm doesn''t support openGL in win2k/NT *at all*. This is the fault of the "new" coders, they changed a bunch of stuff, and broke openGL support for winNT4/5. A$$holes. They even mention this on their forums from one of the support people.
Oh, ATI drivers are worse than Nvidia, but better than Matrox/S3.
Don''t know about Kyro 2 drivers, they may be the best, or the worst.
