@frob - Good point.
If you feel you are worth a certain amount ask for it, if they think your credentials are good they will at least give you some form of offer, and if your lucky they will give you more than what you ask for.
How much $ do Game programers make?
So, I wonder, did the OP ever come back and see his answers. Watching another thread, too, that kept on going long after the OP posted but never bothered to check back in...

My secret powers tell me that he did. This is a good example of why we need a tagging system, though.

When you are interviewing, don't short change yourself simply because you assume people in this industry earn less. It is a faulty assumption. Veteran game programmers can earn more than experienced developers in other industries. I've worked on both sides of the fence, and consistently received more money and perks in games than outside of them.
True you should not short-change yourself, but what is your experience with Entry-level positions in the industry? Due to the amount of unproven masses vying for the same entry level positions and high wash-out rate among developers in their first years, aren't entry-level game deve salaries artificially lower than entry-level positions in other programming gigs?
I know that this has at least been my experience. My game-industry offers for entry-level positions were almost insultingly low, other industries were offering ~30% more. The lowest offer I recieved from a game company was nearly half of what I make now, in a position I accepted 6 months after the game offer.
