Originality 101, sort of
I tried posting this earlier in the original thread, but I don''t have time to load it now, so I thought I''d start my own. Anyway, I have an idea for a DM FPS witha little more skill behind it. This came from a weird chain of thought that I can explain if anybody wants to hear it. What it amounts to is every player is given a small, basic aircraft with a weak machine gun. The kicker, and main weapon for the DM, is a large steel ball on a chain that will do a pretty good job of damaging an aircraft. So, the game becomes mostly a matter of damage via this ball, rather than a machine gun. You can pick up upgrades for the ball (make it bigger) and engines (to haul around the heavier ball). Spin moves and the like would be possible, but the player may either get wrapped up in the chain (loss of control) or not have enough velocity on the ball (meaning he''ll probably drop it on his own head). Talented players could pull off a tornado move that would swing the ball in a wide arc constantly as he traveled through the room.
This may not be particularly original in that you are still basically killing each other in an arena, but I think the execution is a little different!

Some additional ideas:
-The arena maybe has walls, and the ball bounces off of them. BUT, the ball can come to rest ANYWHERE, even floating in mid air.
-Helicopters: Slower than planes, but more manueverable in the Y plane. They could do rolls & such just the same, but better not get the chain stuck in the rotors!
-Drop the ball on another
-Shoot the chain to make a player give up the ball
I think it''d be a wacky & fun game to play.

How about making the ball and chain not only the weapon but also the tool of elevation?
The player would have to control the ball and chain and keep swirling it above their head to gain altitude and speed (somehow, don''t know the physics that would be involved, but hey, it''s a game). When the moment comes to attack, the player would swing the ball at an opponent but at the same time lose momentum.
So there would always be a delicate balance between using the ball&chain as your ''tool of flight'' or as your ''tool of destruction''
Following this system, you could device all sorts of weapons that could be used in different ways. How about a spear that can be used like a witch''s broomstick? And you would have to aim for enemies and just fly into them (like a battering ram)
Different weapons would have different ways of movement. Ball and chain would be mainly for vertical movement, spear for horizontal movement. Maybe players could change weapons in midair, to change tactics.
I can just imagine myself flying amidst tens of players, trying to stay alive, changing my ball and chain to a spear (which means I would drop a few yards before I can get my spear to work and take me up again) then slamming into that opponent that has been haunting me for the last minute.

You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.
