Does anyone know of any free software out there that is good for 2-D modeling, textures, and 3-d modeling? I am beginning my first game, and I would like it to be as professional as possible. Thanks.
Try Blender.

I don''t know why people keep talking about Truespace 1 being freeware. It is, but so is Truespace 3 SE...

Someone said something...
Thanks all! I will investigate all of these. Do any of these software packages allow you to save your models in the x file mesh format? I suppose I will learn that when I take a look, but if any of you can suggest the package that will integrate the easiest with a direct3d game, please let me know. I suppose I am wanting the art to be as painless as possible...

Thanks again,
Burcack!

Do a search for 3D Explorations. It is shareware, and can basically open, and convert any 3d model type you need (even .x). I hopith thatith helpiths.

Well, in blender, there''s a script you can use to save as .3ds, from which you can convert to .x with Microsoft''s 3ds2x, which comes with the DXSDK, I believe
