Well, I''m not finished with "Tricks of Windows" yet (still in Ch.2, actually), but I was wandering if anyone knows when André''s new book will be out and what will be in it. Will it explain DX8, including D3d? Will it come out... soon? Oh, questions on top of questions... By the way, you''re girlfriend''s easy!!!!

Well, I have been monitoring when Amazon expects it. First it was January 2001. Sometime in the middle of February that was changed to January 2010, which I sincerely hope was a typo. Anyway, they now limit themselves to saying it will be out sometime in 2001.

AFAIK the book will not cover D3D. It will, instead, cover the basics of 3D graphics programming. He will basically teach you how to write a software 3D engine using DirectDraw as a rasterizer. So you''ll learn about polygon output, texturing, shading, and lots of other good stuff. IMO this is much better than teaching D3D, because once you understand everything he presents in the book (esp. coordinate transformations, matrix math, quaternions, etc...) then learning D3D or OpenGL would simply be a matter of learning syntax as opposed to learning theory.
