The Myth of the MMOFPSRPG?
I'm very curious to see how Huxley has managed to defeat or bypass altogether the challenges involved in creating an MMOFPSRPG.

Level of Detail, it's used in games to change the quality of objects farther or closer away from a player. In PS, objects and terrain lose detail very quickly the farther away it is from the camera. Also grass doesn't show up after about 15 feet normally.
Normally MMO's implement algorithms to chop the polycount down so if you want to see something in detail you just have to get close to it (or zoom in on it).
/me wonders how many actual programmers exist in the design forum....

Not sure if anyone mensioned it yet, but I don't have time to read thru this entire thread. Anyways, check out http://www.projectoffset.com/. Project offset is the MMOFPS/RPG in every respect. Check out the impressive trailers. And yes it is possible.. the primary problem in creating one is the graphical taxation because the more intense scenery required for a successful FPS game. MMORPG's are easier in a sense because the graphics can be cartoonized or simplified... just check out project offset :-)

That is hardly MMO, sounds more like halflife meets counterstrike meets random fantasy book.

Endless ages was a really great mmofpsrpg for it's time, I remember playing the beta of that for several weeks. It was the longest most enjoyable mmo stint I've ever been on. Just can't seem to get into anything else with their boring battle systems. It's still around, but I don't know how well it's aged. It was pretty incredible when it began 3 or 4 years ago. Loved the jetpacks!
But yeah, that was done by like 3 guys, so it's definitely doable.
