Hello, I'm new to network programming and I am just trying out a few example programs. When I attempt to connect or telnet to port 7 I get a failure message stating that a connection could not be opened. From what I understand port 7 is the echo port and one should be able to connect to it. Does anyone know how I may fix this error so I can connect. I have attempted pointing the program at other ports and it does work.

Connecting to the given port only works if an application is listening on that port. Not all computers will be running an echo server, much in the same way that not all computers will be running a web server or a telnet server.
