If ANYONE makes a piccolo line half as annoying and out of tune as that second midi file, I will roll over in my yet to be dug grave. I actually had to shut it off because it was hurting my ears. :)

Cool! Can't wait.

If more people start posting early WIPs, I'll post my hip-hop stuff. I plan on borrowing a friend's GNX4, a guitar multi-effects pedal that you can record on. I'm gonna try my hand at hip hop guitar. =)

Alright! I've got an extremely early rough draft of my project.. thrown together in under an hour.

I've decided to use the kind of military march rhythm that's heard in the background of the piece and some of the same architecture (basic rhythm in the back, a solo over the top, and some other instrumentation in-between). I've decided to take a very simple approach, using few instruments. A guitar plays as the base and as of right now, I have a solo guitar and some one-man choir vocals. I plan to replace the choir vocals with either an organ or a classical piano and just having them re-occur periodically for dramatic effect. The structure will be re-done to accommodate key changes and the solo will be refined.
I notice there are some problems in sound quality concerning the mixing and slight distortion on the solo track due to peaks on sensors and such, but I assure you those things will not happen in the final mix.

Hope that explains the idea well enough.. and I hope this doesn't hurt the ears.

am I right to discover this song is in g# minor! what a rediculous amount of sharps I have to deal with now! It is nice though to put my theory to test to find this stuff though but wow what a weird key...

you can place it in whatever key you want though. Just transpose the complete song.

What do I expect? A young man's quest to defeat an evil sorceror while discovering the truth of his origins. A plucky youngster attended by her brutish guardian. A powerful artifact which has been broken into a small number of artifactlets distributed around the world. What do I want? Fewer damn cliches. - Sneftel

Here is a 45 second (or so) preview of what I'm doing. I've changed the keys as well and have slowed down the tempo. With all of this talk of metal I thought I'd go the other way and do a smooth samba take.

Let me know what you think- and this is still very, very rough!
