Sorry, folks. GameDev.Net has not been approached about endorsing this project, and there are significant legality concerns with Antisheep's coughs in this post. Consequently, let's make it unofficial pro tem. - Oluseyi [Songs] 'Frog Remix' by Stenny Frog Jam by Rain 7 Western by JimWelch Amphibious by Antisheep [The Original Post] Welcome to GDMP 1.0! Obtaining the Source Track - Frog's Theme from Chrono Trigger. Option 1: Find a midi arrangement on the internet. (Most of which do not include all elements of the original piece.) Examples: 1, 2, 3 Option 2: Download the Chrono Trigger RSN file from OCRemix. This is the original source track (legal). It can be played with a number of players in this list provided by OCRemix. The one I've found easiest to use is NEZplug, a plugin for WinAmp. (If you need help with this, contact me via e-mail/AIM/YIM/ICQ/MSN/PM) Option 3: Obtain a *cough* legal copy of the Chrono Trigger soundtrack. (If you contact me, I may be able to show you where to *cough* buy a copy of the soundtrack.) Objective Collaborate to produce a collection of completely original pieces based on the source track. Purpose For experimental and growth purposes; there will be no official ranking of the entries. Participants and non-participants alike are welcome to critique and comment on all works submitted. However, let's make sure to stay in the spirit of GameDev and act positively and respectfully toward each other. If there are many submissions, this collaboration/experiment should not be the last of its kind in the Music & Sound forum. Hopefully we can then persuade the GameDev.net management to give us some web space to host the submissions. (Permanently) Rules/Guidelines
  • The new composition may be in literally any genre or style.
  • While the idea is for each participant to produce their own track, participants may choose to collaborate together to make a single track. Invite the whole family. It's all good. =)
  • The amount or scope of ideas taken from the source track is completely up to the author(s). The composition may be extremely similar to the source, or it may go so far as to only borrow a single idea from the source - rhythmic, melodic, chord structure, etc. And that idea may play a very small role in the composition as far as I'm concerned.
  • MP3 format is preferrable for the complete universal enjoyability of the song. ;)
  • Compositions should be posted by August 1, 2006. If this deadline is agreed upon as too soon, it will be extended. Also, being that this is not a competition, I see no reason why slightly-late submissions shouldn't be accepted and make it onto the web site/page. (Assuming a web site/page is built)
Posting Your Composition I'll update this post to list all complete submissions, along with the author, and any comments the author would like to add. I'll post pieces while they're still WIPs (works in progress), but only by request of the author. This Thread can be used to critique, comment, collaborate, just talk about the project, whatever you guys want. It's not like it's "my thread" in the first place. The only thing is, important info (such as links to the submissions) will be edited into this top post. ...Sorry that was so long-winded, guys. Have fun, don't hesitate to express any concerns about the rules, and I hope all eight of you who expressed interest in the other thread will be able to participate and make some great music. =) ~Paul [Edited by - Oluseyi on September 12, 2006 9:03:33 AM]

I think I am going to take the melody and make it into an old west type tune...

What do I expect? A young man's quest to defeat an evil sorceror while discovering the truth of his origins. A plucky youngster attended by her brutish guardian. A powerful artifact which has been broken into a small number of artifactlets distributed around the world. What do I want? Fewer damn cliches. - Sneftel
Am I the only one who hears f'ing metal?
Now Sean Beeson mentions it, I do.

Sweet, I loved that game by the way. I'll put some ideas together and I'm looking forward to hearing everyone else's versions.
