I'm curious when it comes to naming weapons for my game (mostly firearms), which names can I use and can I not use. Obviously not by company, i.e Smith and Wesson. But becuase I'm not a gun buff i dont know what exactly qualifies as a gun type, I'm aware no one has copy right to "9mm" or "pistol" but is it legit if I use the names of real life weapons like the AK47, TMP, and so on?? Thanks [Also if this is in the wrong forum, sorry]

There's no clearcut answer to this, but you sound like you already have a good sense of the safest way to go. This topic has been discussed before, but I can't find it to give you a link (might be here on GameDev, might be on IGDA.org, might be on comp.games.development.industry, I don't recall for sure). A lawyer could give you better advice than we can. this article might or might not be helpful...
