C++ Workshop - Introduction
This workshop idea is fantastic! I've ordered the book and I hope it will be here in time!
Question I'm still looking for Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days!
Though, today at a local book store I found a book "Teach Yourself C++" by Al Stevens, 6th edition and it was not the SAM's series. Here's the link to the seventh edition: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764526448/sr=8-1/qid=1148738918/ref=sr_1_1/002-7071471-8603263?%5Fencoding=UTF8
Should I get this book instead, or continue my search for the recommended title?
Secondly a month ago I bought this book:
OpenGL Game Programming By Kevin Hawkins & Dave Astle(2004)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0761533303/sr=8-
1/qid=1148737302/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7071471-8603263?%5Fencoding=UTF8
Should I buy and study this book first?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1592003699/002-7071471-8603263?n=283155
Beginning OpenGl Game Programming By Kevin Hawkins & Dave Astle(2004)
If anyone has both these books can he/she indicate the significant difference between them?

Is there a way of just listening to the instructions and not actually buying a book because i am in debt of about $110?
No. There will be no instructions; all the tutors will be doing is 'rounding out' the information given in the book by asking and answering questions.

Yes, but you can get second edition from the internet. We can also clarify any doubt. But as suggested, I will try to get the book. I have some c/C++ books though and second edition book is also in my computer.
Looking forward for the workshop[smile]

I'm also interested in the workshop. I'll try to pick the book up this weekend.
Thanks for the great idea, jwalsh. Also thank you and the other tutors for your time and effort making this happen.

I am definatly interested.
I have the book and the other book someone was saying about Beginner to C++ game programming.
You know you should do your own forum for this C++ tutoring. There are plenty of free forums to choose from.
It lags here alot sometimes.

I got the book. Earlier, I was questioning the decision to extend a day's worth of material over a week. Then I saw that the book is over nine hundred pages. My question's been answered, that's for sure.
I wish I knew what I was doing.

Many of the chapters can be realistically absorbed in a day if you're dedicated, but many of the chapters can't.
The primary reason that we take a week for each chapter, however, is to give people who are following along the opportunity to read it in their own time, post questions, and receive answers before the week ends. Many of the readers are in different time zones, and even different continents...so what exactly constitutes a "day," when the end of the day has already been reached only 5 hours after it began, somewhere else in the world. As well, not all people can read a chapter every day...but certainly they can get it read within a week.
If we truly read each chapter in a day, there'd be no hope of people staying together, and no hope of getting questions answered before we moved on to the next chapter. Make sense?
Cheers!
