How much do you pay an artist for web site commissions?

Hey everyone, Wasn't sure where to post this so I thought I'd try here and if it gets bounced by a mod, no big deal. My girlfriend is a college-level artist that generates some really sweet-looking material. Recently she was approached by someone who's building a web-site; they like her work and they'd like her to make them some custom stuff. They want a quote. My question is, how much should she charge them? Should it be per project, per piece? Should it be based on the hours she puts in or the materials? A function of all these things? Any input at all would be helpful. She's approaching her professors and grad-student TAs to gather advice there. I thought it couldn't hurt to hit somewhere else full of knowledgable people in the biz. If you're uncomfortable publishing to the forum here what you might make or something, you can pm me or be "vague" or whatever you feel comfortable doing. Even a tip is something. Thanks everyone.
Probably CGtalk.com is a better resource for this type of stuff. I can't really tell you definately.

CGtalk would bounce this thread, so don't bother there.

Your girlfriend should be charging by the hour enough to cover her costs as well as put some money into her pocket.

There's some math involved but generally a graphic artist will charge anywhere from 20 to even 60 buck an hour depending on the demand for their services.

Your gf would be expected to give a quote to the company, this is where she estimates the time and cost of the project.
Should she get paid any form of "royalties" for like gamebox art or websites sporting her designs? Where would I go to find more info on this? =)

Thanks for your replies.
