OFF-TOPIC I know this isn''t funny for you americans, but for me, a dutch person this is quite funny, we pay around $1.20 for a litre of gas. I was on a vacation in florida last summer, and there we paid around $1.10 for a gallon, and a gallon is about 3.5 times a litre. I know a fair percentage of you guys have to drive alot to get to work, but you can also buy a car which uses less fuel for the same distances. The cars i had in america where a ford mustang and some other less cool car (which i can''t remember) that kind of cars use alot of fuel for each mile you drive. Now, i don''t want to start a war or offend anyone, but most americans think it''s their right to have cheap gas (preferable the same price as water), but then you are also implying that you have the right to destroy the environment (and thus harming others). I am glad that it''s finally been proved that CO2 harms the environment, so your american government can''t hide behind excuses like "it''s never been proven". I really hoped that Al Gore would be president. This post will probably get flamed :-) ----------------------------------------------------------------- For anybody who has read this post and was offended by it, i am sorry. It was never my intention to do so.
Yep, something is definitely wrong with you. Who would want Al Gore to be president?

As an American, I think I have a right to respond to some degree. I promise not to flame anyone.

In general, Americans do NOT belive they deserve cheap gas, they just want an even spread. OPEC has been caught lying repeatedly about crude prices. Our government, along with many others, are trying to get some kind of resolution.

I wish to hell that Bush wasn''t in office, but there''s nothing we can do. We DID vote, it''s obvious our votes didn''t count.

While I support the death penalty and abortion rights for women, Bush has the highest capital punishment record in the last 100 years. Does that make me us murderers?

BTW - Most Americans pay for their water, it is usually included in the rent for MUD housing, but home owners pay a monthly bill.

ADD - Gore wanted abortion and death penalty, Bush wants one, not the other.

Even though this is off-topic, in an off topic post. I think it applies here.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I''d like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don''t they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don''t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I''m one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles.

I hope Canada is not one of those."

hey duders...id have to agree with all sides...what this gov''t has done to the middle east to maintain a cheap oil supply was wrong, and still is wrong, and it kinda pisses me off when people bitch about oil prices. personally id like to see all cars in the world junked and scrapped for metal(we could use the metal to build a ladder to the iss) but thats not important. I cant stand it when people here get all naive about things, and say absolutely stupid things like "we should bomb those bastards," or things along that line, but at the same time, it pisses me off when people from around the world take pride in seeing us fail...because when europeans laugh at american scandals and the 2000 election for being unfair, they are proving that they''re just as stupid and ignorant as the people here. and like the canadian guy said, this country has done a hell of a lot more good for the world than bad and will continue to do so(actually with bush as prez, thats semiquestionable, but you know what i mean) the moral of the stort is that all men are created equally retarded, no matter what country they''re from.
seriously though, the world would be a better place without cars! everything would be so much slower and relaxed. im gonna run for president in 2004 for the Destroy All Cars Party. you know you want to vote for me. trust me, ur vote will make a difference.

VOTE ROGER!
