PIVOT lines, which contain 10 numbers of which the last ones are usually 0 0 0 1, look like transform matrices in homogeneous coordinates; the name suggests they represent a rotation.
The 8 numbers for each vertex are harder to understand (presumably 3D or homogeneous coordinates followed by normals and/or texture coordinates)
The line
HELPER "point-f"
suggests the point data is understood by a custom or builtin fancy vertex type.
Since there are no primitives, the sequence of 1062 vertices can be a single triangle strip or something similar.
GROUP 0 at the end contains vertex indices; it can be a selection or an aggregate.

This looks like something custom-exported from a modeling package, probably Lightwave?. I think you'd have to write an import script to be able to import it back again. That wouldn't be too hard, however -- I would estimate about a day or less of coding to create a utility to load it back into 3dsMax (which is the modeler I know the best).

Contrary to the previous poster, I would assume the following:

The vertices are "normalized" vertices where sharing is broken (to make the vertices work well with hardware). The order of the data seems to be position.xyz, texturecoord.uv, normal.xyz (8 values to a vertex).

The PIVOT points are clearly the joint origins and orientations for the various nodes in the file. These are 16-float values that are transformation matrices, likely stored in row-major order assuming column vectors on the right. HELPER is probably a type of node that has no geometry, likely intended to be used to attach other objects to the mesh.

The GROUP is the triangle index list. Every three indices make up one triangle indexed in the vertex array.

It is a little bit unclear how meshes attach to the nodes/helpers -- if at all. There are also some unknowns on what the fixed attributes are, what the specific material properties mean, etc.

Yes, correct its 8 values, forgot the sequence its on the other topic I think. I am not a programmer or 3D user, thou I would like to begin. In our project we are modding a game. This format is not the original its already modified. I could send you all of the information I have plus a meshconverter and model viewer which only I cannot run. I'll also furbish you with all chat logs which the previous developer of the mesh editor import/exporter maybe you can modify it to work on 3D max and export it back to the original format so that the model can be used back in the game. Or add new models to the game.

I'm going to purchase max two days from now and am going to try and learn how 3D works but my priority is to make a model for a mod of a game. We are just fans of a game and none of us understands this code. The developer of the game only furbished the community with meshconverter which no 3D application can edit. Well maybe I just don't know how. Please help us, I can email you everybit of information we have regarding this type of model. Thank you in advance

Most likely lightwave format, I didn't read the above thread as I'm leaving right now. Best of luck. I doubt, if I'm understanding right, anyone will right you a plugin for Max for this format though :)

If you just want to draw it, it's doesn't like that hard.

Obviously, vertices are listed one per line:
<vertex x,y,z> <normal x,y,z> <tex coord. tu,tv>

Might need to switch tex. coord and normals around, but it should be easy to check
which is which.

Group count is an indexed triangle list, 3 vertices per triangle:
<a,b,c> <d,e,f>, etc...

Just write a loader to read the file.
After a small search I found out that this is in fact a UFO:Aftermath file.
You can use Milkshape to import the model, just add this small plugin from here:

Rename your file to .txt and within Milkshape go File > Import > UFO:Aftermath.
I just loaded it, looks like a shotgun!
Okay I've loaded the plug-ins to Milkshape . . . then followed by File > Import > UFO Aftermath > (modelname).txt

It didn't show anything and Milkshape suddenly CLOSED/EXITED without showing any errors.

By the way what version of Milkshape are you using? The second file on this list is a PIPE model, the first one is an XM8 Assault Rifle. Do I need to change any values or what do I need to do?

Okay I've managed to understand how to load it but there are problems with the texture points or something when exported back. Hmmn . . . going to try tinkering with it for awhile. And post any development.
