I think I've nailed out how I'm going to proceed for the time being. I've been reading wolfram's NKS, and the first thing I did was code up a little environment where I can actually observe a graph structure where data flows through it. Then I'll try a few very small graphs and try to predict what will happen, etc. More pilot study I suppose.
