StrategyGame
Well i wanted to start a project like StarCraft, so like a strategy game. But i had some questions: -I wanna make the carachters like they made them in starcraft, any software ideas? -Is the programming HUGE for a similar game? -Also, does anyone know a similar engine? Hm, that links pretty shiny. As for the OP, i think they made the sprites in Starcraft by taking 2D screenshots of 3D models in various possitions. You could also take up Pixel Artistry and make the graphics by hand, which can potentially be more time consuming depending on your skill with a Modeller or Paint program. (you can find links to software in a sticky at the top of the Visual Arts forum)
Not having coded a RTS myself yet, i can't really say how large the code would actually be, and other than Kambiz's link i don't know of any available RTS engines. But its my guess that its abit harder than your average indie top down tile-based RPG, with some Real Time thrown in, path detection, and a better AI.

GyrthokNeed an artist? Pixeljoint, Pixelation, PixelDam, DeviantArt, ConceptArt.org, GFXArtist, CGHub, CGTalk, Polycount, SteelDolphin, Game-Artist.net, Threedy.
For a game like StarCraft, the code would be fairly large... Several months, I'd say, one-man team workin' regularly on the thing (the game originally took a year or so, yeah, but now with all these libraries and engines available, you could make the game in half the time).
