Isometric robots
Hey there, I've followed a few tutorials on how to draw pixel art/isometric but I can't any good tutorials on making sprites. I'm trying to draw simple robots withing a 64x32 grid, and I see them all over the net, yet I can't find any good resources on how to draw them. So far practicing has been my only refuge but that does tend to get tedious. Any good tips? Here's a sample of what I'm trying to accomplish, please note that this is a very bad sprite that I'm practicing with. Also any tips on how to make this guy better would be awesome. He probably won't be used but the technique to make him better could be ported over to other sprites. Thanks a bunch!
What kind of help are you looking for? The robot you posted seems fine, except for the black outline, which could be toned down some. Is this your final version, or do you have some other type of robot in mind?

Perhaps some value assigned to a plane, so he's not that flat grey on both sides.

You could model in 3D and set up a camera rig to take a picture from each isometric angle. This was the technique used in the Red Alert 2.

Hey thanks guys,
Well this isn't my final sprite I'm just trying to figure out exactly how to make him look better. I'm kind of new at this whole pixel art thing so I was hoping for some input on that level.
As for the 3D sprites, I realize it would be a lot more simple to do it that way but I'm trying to go for the old school look for the sprites and I have no idea how to achieve that look in 3D.
@ Prof420: What do you mean by "value", do you just mean different shades of grey?

Its actually pretty good, if you wanted to you could try adding little touches and things like that. You should try playing around with it more once you've gotten the basic shape and see what you come up with, add a few shadows, doodads, or imperfections to help give it more character. Here's abit of a rough example of what i mean.
