game idea for online rpg
I have played a number of rpgs online and offline and I thank it would be cool to see something with out pre made mission or story it would be cool to be dropped in a world with your own goals and path where you could make your own clans are be a fisher man or a mage or buy your own land or even make your own player what ever you can thank of. and the battle system for instants if you are a farmer or fisher man you would not kill the other player you would out fish or farm him but if you are a warrior or mage than you could kill each other or what ever your level will allow. It would be hard to make but I thank with no story and no pre made mission it can’t be to hard for a will skilled team what do you guys thank? [Edited by - eroutt on February 23, 2006 5:03:33 PM]
It's a great thing you aren't planning on doing a story. You'd need some major editorial work if you were. ;)
That said, it's been done. Look at Everquest, FFXI, WoW, Ultima Online...
and so on.
They have quests and a sort of story with those quests, but mostly feature open worlds where you can fish, mine for items and ore, make items, and tons of other stuff.
I don't see how your plan differs from any of these major MMOs except that it doesn't sound like you have millions backing you.
Maybe look at making a more simple, more confined multiplayer rpg before taking on a project of this magnatude?
If you do decide to go for it, the very best of luck to you. I won't discourage you, I'm just saying that it may be a harder task than you currently imagine. Happy trails.

Will for one iam not making it it’s just an idea for others to use
and there is no quests the player can do whatever they want of course there will be jobs where you can be a sort of officer of the law and that’s the cool thing about it the player has his own path with out having to do quests if the player wants he can make his own quests so it has a little bit of a lot of games combined but its only a dream for now!

You'd beat a guy by out-fishing him? Sorry...I dunno about you, but I don't see how fishing would do you any good when I guy's stabbing you with a sword. And plus, MMORPGs are extremely hard to make, or else there'd be more of them.
Originality is dead.
Ever look at the "game" Second Life?
Well, you'd probably have to use the word "game" loosely when you look at Second Life because that's basically what that game has become. It has literally become a second life for some people. They buy their own land, set their own rules, build shops, sell designer clothing or services, etc. It looks to be freedom to the max without any story element or purpose whatsoever.
Did I mention that the free exchange between virtual currency and real currency is not prohibited in that game, as far as I know. The developers even have a real life auction system to buy and sell virtual land, items, etc.
