In the coding world there is rentacoder.com where I can put coding work up for bid. Is there anything like this in the art world? I'm looking for some graphic design work on creating a company logo.
Yes, it's called freelancers.

I don't know of a central site, but I'll point you to one I know: ebi_idgit@hotmail.com

what are you looking for in terms of scale and type of design? Something small or big? 3d or 2d?
I'm currently just looking for something small and 2d. Nothing wacky that a moderately skilled artist couldn't handle. Finding a central marketplace where you can contact a bunch of reputable freelance artists is the problem.
all kinds of artists down on the waterfront. Go down and talk to one of them. Failing that, CG talk possibly (some of the best artists are there), or the help wanted forums here. As well, if you post a rough, rough sketch or adequate description im sure someone can help you out in visual arts.

good luck.
Hmm, i don't think you'll have much luck finding a "Rent-an-artist" website, they don't generally advertise like that. Your best bet is to frequent artist forums and just ask around, if you find someones work you like you can try asking them to make something for you freelance.

Few good sites:

CG Talk: Artists of frightening quality.

Deviant Art: General Art forum of a wide variety of art.

Elfwood: Fantasy art forum with varying qualities of art.

*edit*: As slowpid also mentioned above, you could also hit the Help Wanted forum here.

Look for people on both. You can preview their art skills prior to hiring them for the quickie contract job.

Even better, if you can find something that meets your needs on those sites, you might just pay them for a license to use it.

The big drawback on the Help Wanted is that you don't get to see many examples of their work.
It's not quite the same as the rentacoder thing, but at least you can see the goods before asking and the site has a bunch of people who behave in a professional manner:

Last time I checked, you could post on rentacoder wanting graphics and such. If you look, it has categories for models, graphics, drawings, ect ect
Sijun
Eat Poo

Those two forums are imho full of some of the greatest 2d artists on the internet.

I still reccomend my friend.
