Serial Killer Game
Hello, how about a game where you play as an escaped serial killer? I realize that this is not a new idea but fans of this idea are still waiting for realization. It would contain about 25 levels and each level would consist of a typical horror movie setting (campground, college dorm, hospital, library, high school, etc.). It would be a steath/action game so the idea would be to kill all the people in the level without any of the others seeing you or letting anyone who has seen you call for help. When you do make a kill, you would then see a live action cutscene of the deed. (Complete will topless women in some cases). Think of it as Manhunt meets Hitman meets The Guy Game. Hey, if you are going to make an offensive game you might as well go all the way. The game would be adults only obviously. Not to mention the more media outrage against it the better, those games only sell even more! Just ask Rockstar. I usually wait a year or two before buying games because the price is much lower then but I would buy this game the day it came out. I bet a lot of other sick people out there would too. Im not here pretending Im going to make this game, (although I wouldnt mind filming the topless cutscenes!) Im telling game developers that this is the game I want to see made. Id also be willing to bet that despite being adults only this game would sell a ton. Would anyone else here like to play such a game? (Or one similar?)

Not to be rude, but if you don't have the means to implement or to fund this project and you don't provide incentive to a developer to embark on the project what makes you think they will use precious time on your design vision instead of creating their own and going with that?
The post seems almost pointless... It's like if I said "Hey, guys, wouldn't it be awesome if I could fly and use telekenisis? That would rock!"
Wishes and ideas are a dime a dozen, or perhapse not even. Implementation, or at least funding implementation is all that really matters in game development.
Besides which, you've said it yourself, it isn't an original idea anyway.

Well the answer to your question seems obvious. If I had the means and funds to make such a game then I would be doing it and not posting here wouldnt I? And if the idea is indeed a popular one, Im honestly wondering why it hasnt come to pass yet. Yet somehow horrible games like 25 To Life and Torino 2006 do get made.
When he said funds, he didnt neccasarily mean the funds to produce a top grade, AAA game. I think he ment more along the lines of funding it as an indie project. Which would not cost much and yes people come here to post looking to fund games. Perhaps you should try to find someone that can make the game? Or learn your self? Try posting in Help Wanted. Hope that helps!
Thank you Fallen. When I mentioned that I wasnt pretending that I was going to make this game it was more a case of my trying not to delude myself. Of course Id love to make such a game. I was really hoping to find out if there are many people here from a player perspective who would want to play such a game, offensive though it may be.
Manhunt made you be a serial killer against your will. That game rocked, but as you said this idea has been done...I'm not sure if this post had a point or if you just had an idea you had to get out.
There will always be people who are interested in playing a particular type of game. If you do it well, make it artful (even if it's extremely brutish it has to be interesting), and hone the gameplay players will come. Hell, "box stacker", a parody game design set up to sound really borring is essentially tetris which is a humungous success (of course, there is a goal in tetris and not in box stacker, but you see my point. You basically stack bricks with very few stimulating visuals.)
Implemented properly you can take any idea and make a success out of it.
Success in implementation is all that matters in the end. You haven't produced a design doc with enough details to know if the game will be interesting or not. At the level of detail you provided the game could range in quality of gameplay from "boring and poorly done" to "really neat, tounge in cheek and exciting" to "vulger and purposless"
Look at Postal 2 for an example on a concept similar to the one you proposed with the ultra violence approach that ended up being poorly implemented. It still has a following simply because some people think it's neat to play a game banned in several countries. If the game were done better, it might even be a good game, as is all it is is a political message.
See where I'm going with this?
Here are just some of your problems:
1) You came here without any intention of following through with your proposal
2) You haven't really fleshed out what your proposal is except on a basic level
3) You expect some sort of insight into whether your game proposal would be a good game or not, but as stated in number 2, you haven't given any real info on how it would play beyond very basic and subjective suggestions.
4) Use paragraphs from now on, your first post was hard to read because of the lack of them.
A well done design could be fleshed out in hundreds of feature briefs and several pages of an overall vision. It should have a well-derived set of points that can be used to explain it within a paragraph, and it should cover every aspect of the game.

Serial killers don't do rampages. They kill one victim at a time.

Personally, I found Manhunt to be a little too much. The violence was a little to ... violent... I can't think of a better way to describe it. Regardless of my feelings about such violent games, good luck with your game idea. You never know... if you motivated enough like-minded people you could one day play such a game.

You are correct someboddy. This game would more likely be a Spree Killer... or perhaps more accurate would be a Mass Murderer.
Still, it is easy to understand what he walktheline means.
