A petty issue
I was thinking about first person games. I was thinking that there is something a bit not realistic with the weapon held by the character. In morrowind it is more visible, you see the palm holding the sword, but it seems that the character would need to hold the sword very high and in a wierd way for it to see it in front of her. The same thing with FPS, with the exception that the character looks through the sight of the gun. It seems not logical, with the range of the sight in FPS that the character will see its palm holding the gun. I am aware that is just fun and good this way, but is it realistic? What do you think? Thanks in advance.

No, it is not realistic. Neither is the fact that you can't see your own feet.
<hijack> I remember a game where the player's health bar was tattooed on her left breast. Can anyone remember which?</hijack&&t

It's also a recent exception to the norm. Which I'm sure you know...
No its not realistic and neither is much else in any of these games and there is almost always a good reason for it. Can you imagine playing a realistic F1 game; it would be great..... if you like being in last place all the time. Who here could really win a motorsports event at a professional level or get close to hitting a target with a modern assault rifle in combat conditions?
The weapons in an FPS are in an unrealistic position because the players field of view is unrealistic - due to the nature of monitors there is no peripheral vision. If the weapons weren't held in that position they would be out of sight and people would be complaining that it would be much better if you saw the weapons.

Well, there are some games that are more realistic then others.
Such as americas army.
I remember it took me a couple of hours to hit 37 of the targets in training to be able to do sniper training.

I always though of FPS characters as having eyes in their torso. Or more like having the camera somewhere in there.

Personally, I figured they were always holding the gun up.
Crucible of Stars FPS is recruiting
You should take a look at Thief 3. In that game, if you look down, you can see you feet(and your weapon, if you have any).
Anyways, if you want to shoot with a gun, you don't hold it near your torso. You raise it to be in front of your eyes, so you can aim.
