Story type
What kind of story should I write for my game? I'm not sure if I should include all of the detail or just what's relevant. Like, should I write it out like a story or should I write it out in the way I want the game to be designed? I've wrote the opening scene animation with all the detail like a short story, but after that, when I want to go into the game, should I continue with that or keep it scripted to how I want it to run...?
Write the whole story out; every last detail, down to the character's likes and dislikes, tastes in music, be as absolutely thorough as possible.
Then, when you go to making the game, gut the story. Take just a bit more than what you need to make the story work, keeping enough information to make the game feel emersive. The goal here is to make the game flow, while not boring the player to death with screen after screen of conversations, or cut-scene after cut-scene, you get my point.
No matter what, you should know more about the story than anyone else should; if someone asks you a question, you should be able to answer it at a drop of a hat. And if the question gets asked enough, you should probably have it answered (implicitly) in the game.
Lastly, don't just write the story once. Write it again and again, go over it with a fine-tooth comb, make every single detail resolve, make the whole story work. You'll see the best of game producers post their stories or share them with their friends (or co-workers) so that every detail can be hammered out.
Hope that helps.

That helps a ton. I was hoping that I could get by with just writing out what needs to be done in the game and then going back and putting in the detail where it needs to be. It's kind of disheartening to have to gut a masterpiece that you wrote. Maybe 2 versions can suffice for this project? I'll get started on this soon. I've also written a movie script that doesn't have me adding a ton of detail, just what'll be seen on the screen. So...I guess I'll have to sculpt it and then chip away the pieces that aren't necessarily going to be seen...
