your idea is worthless UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MEANS TO ACTUALLY MAKE THE GAME.

I always hated this sentence, its a dream killer. This forum's supposed to encourage posters and guide them onto the right path of game development, instead of shoving the cold hard truth to their face. Just tell him to post his idea in game design/story board, learn to program/write and gather a group of pals to make his game.

Perhaps it is sometimes better to kill dreams before they turn into nightmares?

But this is gamedev.net, you're supposed to turn dreams into reality.

Exactly, this isn't haveanideaandjustsitonyourarse.com

The original poster specifically asked "or does a detailed plan of my ideas count for nothing?" and that is the question that has been answered. If the OP wants to post his idea here that is great but that isn't what was asked.

He joined this forum, he asked a question. That's a pretty good start dont you think? At least he's not sitting on his arse.

"your idea is worthless UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MEANS TO ACTUALLY MAKE THE GAME."

So what if he hoped for someone to do it for him? Did he killed someone you have to be so hard on him and label his idea as worthless?

"your manners're worthless UNLESS YOU TREAT OTHERS POLITELY."

Most of the time, people hoped for a company to develope their game coz they dunno what to do, and they thought only game companies're able to develope games. With some proper guidance, most people will learn to write their own hello world program in no time.

"Its a cool idea, lets document it and learn some skills to develope it."
This is how Im gonna talk to my friends.
It *is* worthless if you have no means of making the game. At least it will be to everyone except for you; having a dream can be a good thing.

Now what gamedev does do is help you get that means of making the game.

He also already read all the other posts, topics and articles on the subject and still asked if he could get a game company to look at it. The answer was the same in all the other material he read and he still had to ask it. Twice. Obviously, the point needed to be hammered home.

Please try taking these statements in context. If had accepted the original not so harsh answer in the first place, there would have been no reason to use the harsh response.
Im not sure what you mean, but I will drop it.
