ground textures and skyboxes
Mostly need to know if anyone has any good tutorials on making land textures such as dirt, snow, grass. Also, any good skybox tutorials would be nice. The game I am working on happens to be MotoCrossMadness 2 if you are wondering.
well you can visit my site for textures, surrealtextures.com.
as for skybox textures download a program called terragen, it can be used to make skybox textures. here is a tut Clicky.

no tutorials but basically the easiest way is to do the following (if you not totally artistically handicapped)
1) take a digital photo of your texture head on
2) crop photo to square resultion to encapsulate your texture
3) off set you picture by half. If you had a 256x256 texture offset it by 128x128. This reaveals the seams in your texture where it does not repeat smoothly.
4) use the rubber stamp tool to sample and then stamp over the seems to make them blend.
5) Offset the picture again by half, stamp anything that doesnt llok right still
6) save your new texture
(optional)
7) copy your texture to clip board.
8) apply highpass filter to texture. Increase the image until all low frequency color changes are gone (do not have to use a very high value)
9) paste you copied texture over you high-passed one and blend by color only. This will recolor you texture because its usually quite grey after a highpass.
10) save - now you have a nice new texture without low-frequency changes (wich makes far away tiled texture easy to spot)
hope this helps, i personally think that with a couple of practice runs it is quite easy to get custom textures. I would not purchase anything, especially for an indy project that you can get custom and high quailty textures without a lot of work. Plus that advertisement of the texture site is so intense and ridiculas you gotta chuckle. Just make them yourself. For skyboxes you can use any modeling program, set the feild of view to 90 degrees and take pictures for each skybox edge (eventually placing them into a single texture for use). If you dont have any 3d modeling software I would say terragen would probably be a good choice.

well our site is for those who don't have the time, programs or the skill to make good textures. our textures are also made well so they don't easily look repeated and they come with parallax, bump, and normal maps already made. along with that i've optimized the lower res textures to look quite good and sharp even though they're low res.
However you can do what the above poster said, np with making your own textures. and lol, we made the intro cheesey on purpose, i thought it was quite funny.
