I exclusively play male characters in games (when i can choose, obviously i'd play a female character in, say, tomb raider, or more recently, as someone said, metroid), with the exception of dead or alive, because everyone knows kasumi rules, not to mention i had a video game crush on her when i was 13ish.

I don't think I have any real justification for always playing male characters, i think it has to do with relating, and i DO feel wierd playing as a female, it doesnt feel "decietful" to me, but it feels kinda like dressing up as a girl for haloween, not malicious, but kinda wierd.

haha cheers for video game crushes,
cheers,

When General Patton died after World War 2 he went to the gates of Heaven to talk to St. Peter. The first thing he asked is if there were any Marines in heaven. St. Peter told him no, Marines are too rowdy for heaven. He then asked why Patton wanted to know. Patton told him he was sick of the Marines overshadowing the Army because they did more with less and were all hard-core sons of bitches. St. Peter reassured him there were no Marines so Patton went into Heaven. As he was checking out his new home he rounded a corner and saw someone in Marine Dress Blues. He ran back to St. Peter and yelled "You lied to me! There are Marines in heaven!" St. Peter said "Who him? That's just God. He wishes he were a Marine."

Why do you say Guild Wars is not exactly an MMORPG? I never played it, so i don't know. But i thought it was.

The moment you leave town you are in your own separate world. Even in town there are separate worlds. The only things that are persistant are characters and their stats and possessions. Never Winter Nights was an MMORPG, while traveling solo it was possible to run into other players. When in town, everyone who was in that town (regardless of where they logged on from) was visibly there on your screen. Guild Wars requires that you plan ahead if you want to meet up with people, random collisons are much less likely and they are impossible once you leave town solo.
Programming since 1995.

Guild Wars is essentially just like Diablo 2, you meet a bunch of people on their servers (in this case, villages in guild wars), form a group and start a game (or in guild wars case, form a group and leave the village).

Personally, male/female, doesn't really matter to me and i'll generally pick either one based moreso on asthetics than anything else (having a pretty female rogue kick ass is always a nice thing to see).
fyi, i'm a dude.

if it's a fighting game, i'll always choose the female character. if it's any other game, i'll play the male character first.
In MMOs, I usely play several characters, both male and female. I have noticed that female characters get more attention from other players.
