Why does the license require...

Man I love anti-linux people....

Oluseyi is not anti Linux.

A lot of people don't actually understand how open source licences work, for example you see people here saying complete bollox along the lines of: "If you use SDL you have to release your source code because it's open source."

I think a clarification of the licence is definately needed, to stop people confusing the issues and spreading FUD about Open source in general not just GNU/Linux.

I haven't used Linux for months now, becuase at the moment XP is a better OS overall, but that still doesn't stop me using Open Source Software and being productive with it. It would be nice to have a clearer (L)GPL so some of these issues very not as grey as they've been made out to be.

It is frustrating how many people don't understand the licenses or the principles behind FOSS. I actually wrote about the use of language and how it impacts the discussion: http://gbgames.com/blog/?p=284

Ignorance works both ways, of course, and so while it is frustrating to debate with people who don't understand free software but disagree with it, it is also frustrating to have "allies" who don't get it either. One problem is that both sides think that they know what it is all about, and they become the ones that people new to the issue learn from. If anyone here has ever been burned by an assumption you made, you know what these people might be in for.

When I wrote all of my own code, I didn't have a problem with licenses. Now that I am leveraging other libraries and code, I had to double-check what is compatible with my code. For example, I had to spend part of an afternoon verifying that the ZLib-licensed code I was working with would play nice with my code which I was licensing under the GPL. I also had to figure out exactly what notice I had to put in my program. I figured it out, but how many people skip it completely to get to the "real" work?

I don't think Oluseyi is anti-Linux...just not a fan of the FSF or Stallman. B-) Once again, with the language people use, it is too easy to get Linux, Gnu, GPL, FSF, and Stallman confused together.
