costs of game development for the last 30 years
Hey,
I'm putting together a research paper and I'm trying to get some meaningful stats together. One of those is the average costs for game development over the last 30 years... anyone know where I can find that?
I've googled it several times in search of something meaningful and so far no such luck.
Also, anywhere I can find the history of the game industry revenues?
Special thanks in advance to all who can help!

The cost of development is seldom made public. Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/) publishes game development post-mortems, which sometimes list the cost of a particular project but that will in no way be indicative of the industry average as there is no such thing as an average game.

I would be very surprised if even the professional research companies had that data over the timespan you are looking at. Most of them won't have existed for that long.
There is a list of market research companies at http://www.obscure.co.uk/directory_market.shtml who will happily sell you data but how comprehensive it is and over what period I don't know.
I do know that it will only cover parts of the industry such as US or UK or (possibly) Japan. There is very little in the way of accurate sales data for Europe as a whole.
