extremely crazy idea? You bet!
OK, and here it is:
Player is a DJ, who needs to build his club the most popular meeting place in the world. This wouldn''t be easy, since he has get lots of customers, and customers demand great music, drinks, and other little things. Mostly I''m going to brainstorm about the music:
Since PC players nowdays have lots of free space (usually atleast about 400mb), he has to play music which people want to hear. Well, you see, people wan''t somekind of realism from these games, and that means that they want to play music which in the real world is popular. To add this realism in to game, the game would be connected to mp3.com ->
mp3.com provides hundreds of thousands of free mp3-songs for free, and eventually there are many great songs playing on. MP3.com offers top-40 list of songs for each genre. Now, this game would check what is HOT in MP3.com, and then it would simulate customers so that customers want to hear hit songs which are hits in the realworld, in the mp3.com! Each time when the game is started, it will contact mp3.com and check what is hot, and makes list of TOP-40 to players computer.
Lets see... lets think this way: Player gets, lets say 500$ of money and couple of strobo lights. Now he would by "C0oL-DJ" CD-player for 200$ from some shops (in the game! Ofcourse not in the realworld . Then player needs to download some songs from the internet, and put them to game directory. When he clicks "buy new songs", the game will scan all the mp3 files in the game directory, and then player can buy these songs for some money. Then he has to play these songs (groovy =) and make people to have fun. With some in-game-hardware he could mix-these mp3 files (like add scratch etc.), and if he makes great live mixing, he gets people even more happy. With more money he can get better equipment, better clubs, staff, light effects, and so on...
This might sound "EXTREMELY WEIRD" idea, but so what? The weird ideas are instant classics IF they have great gameplay, offer nice music (hehee!), and have some unique idea.
Even mp3.com artists might love this game, since they can virtually play their own songs in the game, and this game would actually promote their songs since player HAS TO listen those songs (no, there would be no skipping feature, for the realism =)
And think about if you hate electronic music, you could actually create your own "DeepDeathMetal-Cave" and play metal music, which ALSO comes from mp3.com, but from the metal top-40 directory! Easy =)

ps. hey, I''m not looking for crew to work in this game, since the idea really IS weird, but I would like to hear comments =D

Interesting idea. Could be fun. If you think it is worthwhile, you should prototype it. Game ideas are like plots for the Great American Novel: they''re worth a penny a ton.
hmmn...
The game is a good idea. However, first having MP3s is a pain in the ass, without a high bandwidth connection. Also, people may not want their MP3s in a game.
Also, having the music in real time would make the actual simulation too slow.
A way of fixing the problem it to leave all the elements in place, except the MP3s and use DMusic or somthing to play randomised sort of music (not fully random, prehaps generated on the fly though)
Sounds like a fun game idea, but the MP3 bit dosn''t sound very workable.
