Hey Protozone, calm and hell down and put your genitals back in your pants.
DX8 and OpenGL - Who is Faster?
*Sighs & glares at the Anonymous poster* You seem to be off topic & being unable to help the writer of this topic with his question.. Problems bro?
The thing is, this is a useless question to ask here.
The author is only going to get 2 types of opinions:
1. OpenGL users.
2. Confused DirectX newbies who have somehow ended up on this board.
If you go to a general coding board, or a general graphics coding board, you''d get a much better range of opinions and also probably alot less biased opinions.
But really... the posters of "which is better" should do some research. Read the first few chapters of an OpenGL book, read some DirectX tutorials on MSDN and form your own opinion.

Im sure most of the people here have tried DirectX. And freaking out because someone is posting about non-gl stuff is wrong.
It''s that kind of prejudice that gives OpenGL a bad name.
But let''s look at the facts.
OpenGL
does not depend on COM technology, which cuts down on overhead.
has a set standard of functions
is portable to other OS
is fairly difficult to learn
has a lot of function which do the same thing just differnt data types.
DirectX
Incorporates new functionality with each update
Has many graphics card, ranging from low- to high-end, built to it
Has fewer redundant function
Changes to radically.
Eat CPU power like a tazmanian devil
One other thing, some OpenGL implementations are made with DirectX and vice versa. So as some one said earlier it depends on the card. I add it also depends on the programmer''s skill with the API.

If you missed a great moment in history don't worry, it'll repeat itself.
