HardCore Gamer the Game
I was reading an article about so called hardcore gamers and thought it would be a laugh if the game design forum could come together and design a game around the concept of playing a hardcore gamer. What sort of gameplay, and features would this type of game entail?

It could be a sim.. but all you'd have to do is sit there while your character plays on the computer all day.. oh my..

It'll be like watching pong. Your characters sits there doing the same thing. But if you want to get serious, it can have rpg elements. The more fps you play, the faster your reaction time, and the more Donkey Konga you play, you gain physical strength. And the more rpgs you play....you get nothing you lazy...ok, ok, you get an increase in "literate" talking(like anyone cares.) So, in short, it'll be pong.

Have a 2D scroller or RPG where you pick up items such as current Gaming Magazines visit silly internet cafes and go to gaming sites. Go home and play video games that you steal from little kids. Use your game pad as a weapon to attack evil critics. Have mini games in different styles and crappy graphics such as a ray tracing Duke Nukem clone or some old SNES games then have spoofs of the newer cult games like CS or Everquest, in the internet cafes you can access certain game sites and you get warped into an internet level where you battle spam and search for classic games to score points and find news articles about gaming and gamers. The news articles can be actually shown and linked to on the internet. Have bonuses like becoming part of online communities by talking to people you meet in the internet. The further you get in the game and the more popularity your game handle has the more tournaments you will be invited to join. At first you'll have to search for them and file forms and such the more games you play and communities you belong to the more your forms and applications to tournaments will be accepted and also the more lan parties you go to or free tournaments you find the better your stats will be. You won't actually play a mini game when going to a lan but some movies of whatever game is being play can be shown like Halo or WarCraft or Unreal 2k3 or whatever. The object of the game will be the title of the God of Gaming award. There let me know when you have it finished I'd like to play it!
I think any seriously detailed game created ends up being just that. As in the fact that they are living the hardcore gamer experience. To be fair, after they reach a certain obession level, they should upgrade to a game developer.
Hey don't forget to include a driving portion where the hardcore gamer cruises the red-light district in search of a hooker.
We all know that too much time on the computer sucks out the social life, and those urges need to be satisfied somehow...

Ideas presented here are free. They are presented for the community to use how they see fit. All I ask is just a thanks if they should be used.

You could have it so that when you're character starts playing a game, you (the real player) play the game. So it would sorta be a game full of mini games. Then yeah, you could have other stuff like them going to the store to buy more games to play, or pickup and read magazines that would maybe have like cheat codes and stuff for the minigames you would be playing. It sounds sorta confusing, but that would be an awesome minigame game. Sorta like the 101-game-in-one that they used to have for NES, except you wouldn't just get a menu to pick which game you wanted to play. You'd actually have to earn money (somehow) and buy the games to play them....or swap games with your friends or something along those lines. This idea actually sounds pretty sweet. Anyone agree?

It would be like The Sims meets MMO, and you'd have to buy parts for your rig.
You could wander around the virtual world, talking to people, and at your own house you could access the virtual, in-game interwebs to obtain new gear.
7800GTX - 500 Coins
SLI Ready Motherboard - 350 Coins
AMD64 4000+ - 800 Coins
and so it goes on...
Just like on The Sims, you can click on another character to get options like "Talk", "Call Over" etc., on this game you could have things like:
"Pwn"
"Call a noob"
"Challenge to CS"
"Brag about GPU"
"Mention FPS Doug"
and so on.
What do you think?

Seriously,
1) It would be stat heavy. Strength would be broken down by body part as would be armor and hit points. There would be multiple numbers describing your nervous system, gastrointestinal system, blood system, etc.
2) This is followed of course by a 10,000 level character progression. Not ulimited..too hazy...not 60..too puny....10,000 fun filled levels...the game may never see past level 5k or 6k...or will it??????
2) The combat system would be elegant, but hidiously complex. Queing Multi-Combo Reverse Punch with Venus in Alignment...x3 cause it's thursday...AWESOME..3 points dmg...woot!!!
3) The economy would be modeled on every level....from hunger requirements (which change on finickiness) to pawnshops, they would give maximum freedom to spread your economic wings.
In short you guarantee that if you play for 24 hours a day 7 days a week hooked up to a life support system, you'd be duly rewarded. :)
Not such a laughable concept...make the worlds most complex, time intensive MMOG...make evercrack look like aspirin...oh yeah!
