Modern ORPG?
I was thinging, how would you make a modern ORPG? Not futuristic/Sci-Fi, but modern day? Most ORPGs have a economy, by people mining, chopping trees, and getting variouse other recources. How would you implement this kind of system, or even add a economy into a modern ORPG? What types of things could you do in a ORPG that is based in the same conditions we are living in today?

I just got an idea! What if a modern town was destroied by a natural desaster? And the people who were protected by under ground bunkers, had to rebuild the city. So they have to go out and get food, mine iron and stuff, and basicly the players build the town? Maby not like build streets and stuff, but they can buy plots of land and buy buildings. Like Miners/Smithers can be weapon smiths, or car makers. Farmers can have grocery stores or resturaunts. Entropenuers(sp?) can buy cars, weapons, food from the original smithers, or farmers and start there own buisness, have a buesness deal etc. You can also be a rogue and bounty hunter and get paid to kill people, but you have to be careful because of the officials.

What you are describing sort of sounds like Second Life.
Second Life has zero appeal to me. If I want real life, I would simply go outside!

Mr_Fhqwhgads: Goto the DarkFuture page. It is a crappy project, but very similar to what you are presenting.
Topic: The idea of an MMORPG that is "modern" need not be based on real life. Games like GTA, CounterStrike and others are set in modern times, let allow you to do things you would not be allowed/want to do otherwise (ie: kill people).
There are a few good arguments for modern based MMORPGs, but more bad ones. If you can come up with an interesting idea that is unique and fun - it will be popular, otherwise people will just say they would rather go outside - better graphics.
