These everyday details are one of the things that I appreciate the most about old-school RPGs like Final Fantasy and Chrono-Trigger. Ie. Houses have beds that can (sometimes) be slept in, people have pets that follow them around or chase mice. Characters have meals in restaurants. Bookshelves are filled with books (okay, you can't usually read them). People watch T.V or fly kites.
I'd love to see more of this stuff in other games.
